A home project can involve several specialists alongside the design team. Here is what each does and where to find out which services your project needs.

Structural engineers

Your structural engineer designs the structural elements your project needs, such as beams, posts and foundations. Your written quote sets out which engineering services are included and which need to be arranged separately.

Party wall surveyors

If your project needs party wall advice, a qualified surveyor can explain the notices and agreements that may be required. You can find independent specialists through the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors or RICS. Confirm their appointment and fees directly.

Builders

Builders use your drawings to understand and price the work. Read about our Trusted Builder Network for the current introduction and quotation process. You choose your builder and agree the building contract with them directly.

Site surveys and testing

Some sites need specialist investigations, such as soil testing or drainage and tree surveys. The investigations needed depend on the project. Your written quote confirms what is included before you commit.
