About

We're trying to fix the worst bit of home renovation.

Getting a quote, waiting three months for drawings, paying an unbounded bill — home design is brutal, especially if you've never done it before. Arkiplan is how that changes. Fixed prices. Remote process.

We believe a homeowner should be able to get a real price, a real timeline, and a real set of drawings — without having to phone three design firms to find out who answers.

We believe fixed prices should be the default, not the exception. And that spreading the cost shouldn't be a "luxury option" — that's why we'll be launching new finance options soon.

We believe the design conversation should happen on video, after bedtime — because anyone planning a kitchen extension is likely planning it around a person under the age of ten.

We've been doing it this way since 2008. 2,000 families later, it's worked out.

The team

A close-knit team. Fully remote. Working for you every day.

Our architectural designers lead every project end-to-end — design, client meetings, council applications, liaising with engineers, and seeing the job through. They're supported by a drafting team of around ten who turn each design into polished working drawings, and a small operations team that keeps the work moving.

Architectural Designer

"I like improving imperfect things and making them usable."

In the industry since

2003 — over 22 years. Degree in architecture abroad, Masters in the UK.

Most challenging project

A newbuild house on a former two-garage site in a conservation area. We overcame the Conservation Officer's height concerns by placing the ground floor below ground.

Why architecture

My father was an architect, so I followed in his footsteps. It started with LEGO, progressed to clothes and side tables, and now I improve imperfect buildings.

Previous practices

ACP Architects (Hertfordshire, PFI schools), Avanti Architects (London, healthcare), Brocklehurst (Buckinghamshire, residential), Roger Mears Architects (Islington, conservation & listed buildings).

Nicki Chew

Architectural Designer

"We learned to draw in pen and ink — that tells you how long I've done this."

In the industry since

Before Computer Aided Design was in mainstream use. One of only 4 women (10%) in her university cohort. Final-year perspective drawings took two days each — by hand, in pen and ink.

Most challenging project

A tie between her own house (a converted church hall — "it's not easy being your own client") and a warehouse-to-commercial-office conversion for a trucking company.

Why architecture

Her parents engaged an architect for a small house extension when she was 11. She was hooked from that moment.

Previous practices

Property Services Agency (government buildings), office design & space planning in the UK and Germany, then nearly a decade at an architectural practice on residential and commercial work before Arkiplan.

Taahirah Igbal

Architectural Designer

"The true reward is my clients' happiness — seeing their homes transform."

In the industry since

2008 — the year she completed her Bachelor's in architecture.

Approach

"Every building holds more than what is seen. I see myself as the hub of the wheel — bringing together diverse elements into one cohesive whole."

Why architecture

As a child, she accompanied her father on site visits — watching him study drawings, measure with tape, and meet with his architect. She'd pass the colonial Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank every morning, captivated by its elegance.

Previous work

Progressed from early design roles to Senior Architectural Designer. Portfolio spans luxury villas, gated communities, multi-storey apartments, commercial offices, five-star hotels, clinics and hospitals. Greatest passion: domestic renovations.

Megan Willars

Architectural Designer

"Jobs for family and friends — most challenging of all!"

In the industry since

Since graduating with a 2:1 in Architectural Design & Technology BSc (Hons) from Cardiff. Six years in practice before Arkiplan.

Approach

"Every project comes with its own unique challenges. Creating a design that works and comes together nicely for a client is what really excites me."

Why architecture

Growing up she constantly re-designed her family home and advised friends on theirs. A college module on architecture converted her from interior design — "I LOVED it. Never looked back."

Previous work

University placement in London on a Victorian townhouse rear extension, then six years at a Welsh practice covering commercial, residential, new builds, extensions and barn conversions — rising to office Technical Manager.

Rebecca Evans, architectural designer at Arkiplan
Since May 2025

Rebecca Evans

Architectural Designer

"I love restoring buildings that have already stood the test of time."

In the industry since

2016 — started in first year at Bristol and never left the industry.

Approach

Drawn to existing or historic buildings. "There's something incredibly rewarding about restoring and adapting buildings that have already stood the test of time — creating beautiful, functional spaces that suit modern life while respecting the past."

Why architecture

Her parents bought and renovated homes. She became fascinated by how well-designed spaces affect mood and daily life — and by architecture's blend of creativity, science, and technology.

Previous work

Eight years at a Welsh architectural practice, rising to Design Manager. Residential and commercial, new builds and complex renovations. Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D modelling.
